Governor Spitzer just resigned in a refined and restrained manner. This sad story has not been without its ironies. As if it needed magnification, the Press has added to the "crisis" atmosphere by focusing on delays in Albany. The N.Y. Times had a headline " Spitzer Wrestles Over Response, Paralyzing Albany." Both the Daily News and Newsday wrote about a "standstill" in the state capital. They all talk of the urgency since a new budget is due in a few weeks.
Albany at a standstill implies that it is still standing. In fact Albany has been so dysfunctional for so long that the idea of it being upright is a shocker. In the last 25 years it has passed the budget on time less than 25% of the time.
The lowest moment was of course from the New York Post Reporter, Andrea Peyser, who felt it necessary to scream her question at Silda Wall Spitzer - demanding to know if she was planning to leave her husband. Leave it to the Post to make a guy who spent $80,000 on whores the class act in the room.
(Any news of Senator David Vitter ?)
