As we all know Rudi Giuliani is the real fiscal conservative. He would shrink government and reduce taxes - fiscal discipline is his middle name. Not like the Democrats.
So it's kind of surprising to read that his top aides are forgoing their salaries, especially since according to Rudi, he is yet to start really campaigning. He claims to have had $7 million available to spend in the primaries as of the end of the third quarter. When asked if had money problems, he vehemently denied it: "We have a good deal of money in the bank, probably more than any other campaign."
At the end of the third quarter, Democrat Hillary Clinton had $34 million earmarked for the primaries, while Senator Obama had $31 million.
It's not like Rudi doesn't know how to spend. It's always the best suite in the best hotel for "America's Mayor." He managed to spend $5,370 at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco and $4,034 at La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, CA. Even in Portsmouth New Hampshire he was able to find a room for $800 per night.
At the end of the third quarter Rudy had spent 30 million, McCain $28, Huckabee $1.7 and Romney $53 million. Today their delegate count is as follows, respectively: 1, 10, 21 and 30.
That works out to: Rudy $30 million/ delegate; McCain 2.8 million each, Huckabee about $85,000 each, and Romney roughly 1.75 million per delegate.
By the way, Rudi's claim that he shrunk government and reduced taxes in New York are absolutely false, and he left the city with a huge deficit.
