I think Huckabee campaign manager Ed Rollins was overly kind to Giuliani last night when he said that the candidate was “done,” “has no money,” and was “hurt terribly by those police cruises with his girlfriends.”
Certainly if you use the logic of Rupert Murdoch's daily rag, he could have been much nastier, and should have written:
'More than 97 percent of Iowa Republicans rejected Giuliani's bid to move into the White House.... Adding insult to Giuliani's real campaign injury is that he also lost big to Ron Paul, who received more than double the percentage of the vote than Saint 9/11... Paul, a retread loser for President, ultimately won't do any better this time than he did last time.'
But then the New York Post does not use the same methods to evaluate Rudy Giuliani as it does with Hillary Clinton. The distance between Clinton and Edwards was far closer than that of 6th place finisher Giuliani and Paul, as
In fact, [Edwards] drew 29.8 percent of the delegates awarded, to Mrs. Clinton’s 29.4 percent.
Kevin Drum was very much on target in writing today that
this is one of the things that keeps me on Hillary's side regardless of anything to do with issues or tactics or rhetoric or anything else. I just hate the idea that the fever swamp has been able to turn a perfectly decent liberal woman into such an object of malign loathing. If she loses, then she loses. But by God, I don't want her to lose because millions of Schiffren's fellow travelers have carried on a 15-year vendetta of sick-minded smears and hatred. Enough's enough.
I'm not so sure she could accurately be called a liberal, but the smearing of the Clintons has been a full time occupation for far too many on the right for too long.
