Excuse me, but when we are going into an election cycle where security will undoubtedly be a significant issue, why are Democrats using words like "spineless", "terrified, "cowards" to support their candidates?? Are we supposed to be doing the Republican's jobs for them?
Taylor Marsh, a great blogger, headlines her post "Senate Democrats are Cowards." Would someone please remind her that Senator Clinton is a Senate Democrat. So is Barak Obama. Senator Edwards used to be one. (Joe Biden and Chris Dodd are also Senators, and Democrats)
Kathy at Liberty Post says that "Democrats in Congress do not have sufficient courage, determination, or integrity." As if challenging their bravery is not enough; she also has to suggest that they are lazy liars?
The right of course loves this. "Daily Kos Slams Democrats" is how one wing-nut delighted in our divisions. Not surprisingly, he goes on to suggest that the sight of us eating our own proves that all we are capable of is vicious negativity - 'Bush Derangement Syndrome' anyone?
Talk left instead offers an alternative strategy. The frustration is palpable; but it's not just an attack on our own team.
And one of our very best bloggers, Digby, sort of gets it, but sort of misses it as well. She is perfect in her description of the 'Village of D.C. and Its Opinion Moguls', but goes on to suggest that Democratic senators are among those "once again wringing their little lace hankies and calling for the fainting couch."
While we try to emulate the right's toughness in political battles, we must learn still more from them. As Digby wrote in the same post, describing the right's success:
It's true that the Right has a vast network of outside groups. But they are top down, stick with the program no matter what organizations.
And if they are attacked, the entire right wing apparatus will be brought to bear to protect them...
We're without the quantity of outside groups, but we need not be without the discipline.
There are no cowardly, spineless democrats - there are some who need to hear more support and encouragement and advice. There are a lot of bloggers who need to remember who we are fighting against.
(memeorandum,)
