Victor Davis Hanson remains as dishonest as the day is long. In another of his rambling diatribes that supposedly condemns anti-Semitism, he continues to distort the positions of others, thus creating more enmity for Israel.
Today he writes of :
"A new virulent strain of the old anti-Semitism is spreading worldwide. This hate -- of a magnitude not seen in over 70 years -- is not just espoused by Iran's loony president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, or radical jihadists.
The latest anti-Semitism is also now mouthed by world leaders and sophisticated politicians and academics."
Hanson quotes a horribly anti-semitic statement, and then asks who made it. He then answers:
"Some holdover Nazi?
Hardly. It was former Prime Minister Necmettin Erbakan of Turkey, a NATO ally.
This sure makes it sound that Turkey is a nation of anti-Semites. And what of NATO itself? Has it been compromised as well?
In fact Mr. Erbakan served as Prime Minister for exactly 367 days. He got into office as a result of a fluke in parliamentary coalition building. The Turks got rid of him as fast as they could. He has been banned from politics, and is currently under house arrest, although he still tries to poison the politics of Turkey.
To state that it is not just a "loony" like Iran's Ahmadinejad is more deceit from Hanson. Erbakan, who served for far less time than Ahmadinejad, makes the Iranian seem sane. A quick look at Wikipedia offers the proof:
"Mr Erbakan believes that Jews control the international airline trade group (IATA) and 'airlines must give them [the Jews] 9% of the ticket proceeds.' and that the sect of Protestantism... the Evangelical sect was built by the Jews".
(no explanation for why it is just 9% is offered)
Mr Hanson promotes himself by promoting hate. Look at those who link to him, and to their commenters. (h/t memeorandum)
Spreading such hate speech only harms Israel, making its very existence seem illegitimate, and diminishes the standing of the U.S. in the world.
