This is Caesar Gomez, an employee at North Run Stables, from
which Hillary and Heather Dobbs compete, grooming a horse.  I do not know if this horse is owned by The Dobbs Group, but you can be sure that Sr. Gomez has groomed Dobbs horses, or caballos, muchos, muchos veces.

Hypocrisy once again ruled in the immigration debate today, and the bill went down to defeat. "Populist" demagogues like Lou Dobbs and Michelle Malkin must be pleased.  Dobbs of course employs no illegal immigrants directly.  He is like the guy who hired an English speaking landscaper, and doesn't notice that the guys who actually mow the lawn and trim the hedges don't speak a word of it. Dobbs is very deeply involved in a sport that is utterly dependent on illegals. For much more detail, please see the previous post. Michelle Malkin is also virulently anti-immigrant, even though she herself seems to fit her own definition of an anchor baby or drive-by-citizen.

Both Dobbs and Malkin make a lot of money off of the problem, but contribute nothing to finding a solution. I almost feel sorry for George Bush - although deeply flawed, it was probably the most humane thing he has tried to do.

And what's with the nice pic of Mr. Gomez? You're saying he's an illegal? Did you ask him? Or, do you just hope that he is because it better suits your position?

There is a beautiful vegetable farm about six miles from my home. The owner employees about a dozen and a half folks from a small village in central Mexico. The same workers come year end and year out and work from mid March through the fall season. One day I was chatting with her and the subject of illegal immigration arose for some reason. She was instantly furious. She spends about $10,000 every year on visas, permits and other fees and documentation so that she can legally employee the labor she so desperately needs. Her workers have no desire to become citizens, but, if they did, she would do anything she could do to help them.

My lifelong friend married a lady from Hermosillo Mexico. She has been a citizen of the United States for more than 25 years. She despises illegal immigration from the bottom of her heart. I received an e-mail from her this morning celebrating the defeat of this horrific bill. I was one of 30, or so, names on her e-mail. The other names were Gomez et al. You would recognize everyone of them.

Dobbs and Malkin are not talking about these people. Neither am I. They are legal. For reasons lost to me, the left likes to sweep all these people into one pile. It is shameful.

I did not pick on the daughters - did you read the longer (alright, too long) earlier post? I've been to Mexico dozens of times. For a while my business partner, who has been a friend for a lot of years was a fellow who had been born in Paraguay, his wife in Central America. Along the way I have picked up a rudimentary ability to speak the language - and I mean rudimentary.
I also have a good friend who has made enough money to pay for his daughter's participation in that crazy sport. My brother lives in one of the towns that are on the "circuit" - so I have spent some time at these things. I've seen both the Dobbs girls ride, and they are really good. When you go to one of these events the kid will ride for about two minutes, and then you hang around for a few hours until she rides again for a couple of minutes. If you are friends with the owner and the rider, you'll spend a lot of time hanging around the "stable" talking with the groom while he braids the horse's main, waiting for the final brush/oil that a groom does to the horse with the kid astride, waiting to go into the ring. Not all, but a lot of the guys, are illegal. The riders and the grooms spend hundreds of hours together during a season, traveling to the same events, hanging around day after day, bullshitting with grooms. My friend's child ( child ?- she's 21 this year) knew the immigration status of every worker in her barn, as well as of some of the workers at other barns. She knew stories of how they got here, and how many of them don't go home anymore in the off season, since its gotten more dangerous to come back. I've talked with some of the guys as well.
In my first post, I also quoted from a book by a fairly well known rider and writer, as well as a Press Release about the victory of "Mexico's Memo Gonzalez" in the groom's competition. It's true that I don't know the status of Mr Gomez, but I'm sure that the Dobbs girls know which are legal, and which aren't.
I was not a great admirer of the bill, but I think you have to admit that a lot of those screaming about it are having their lawns mowed by illegals, are buying new homes built by illegals. I mean its not like there are 20 million illegals hiding under a rock - we're all employing them.

I cannot find fault with a single thing you say here. You hit the nail precisely on the head. Employers are the problem. Nobody says we should not employ these folks. We need to know who is here and proper documentation is already a requirement of employment. It is not to much to ask of guests in this country to prove they merit being here. We ask no less of ourselves.
