A Happy Birthday Wish to Nelson Mandela, and a fervent wish that we had a leader like Mandela in the U.S. now!!
He turns 88 today, having spent 27 years in prison. Imagine if it had been a George Bush or an Ehud Olmert who had emerged from prison to run South Africa. Borrowing an image from Desmon Tutu, you have to imagine a country without survivors, only ashes.
Mandela was smart enough, and pragmatic enough, to realize that his children and grandchildren would have to live in the world he helped to shape.
