Tomorrow's New York Times has a piece that I think is all about revenge, D.C. Style. Normally Congressman Peter Hoekstra is a big Bush supporter. Back in May, he wrote the President a letter complaining that there was way too much secret stuff going on without Congressional oversight. The letter was a secret. No Problem. Then Hoekstra said that Negroponte's reorganization of intelligence was making things worse. Problem. About ten days ago Hoekstra, teaming up with the ever heinous Santorum, makes a big, bull-shit announcement that in fact 500 WMD's had been discovered in Iraq. No Problem. Negroponte, savors a morsel of vengeance by organizing a briefing that pronounces that Hoekstra's announcement was poppycock. The President's silence indicates agreement with Negroponte. Problem. This is just too much for the loyal Hoekstra, and the press suddenly has the letter he wrote back in May critical of the President. Hoekstra relishes his meal, even in the sweltering heat of Washington in July, as "vengeance is a dish best eaten cold.",
