Despite all the sword rattling he's doing these days, Bush sees eye to eye with Iran on some issues. On Monday we supported their initiative to deny two gay and lesbian groups the right to consultative status at the U.N.
Such status would allow the organizations to have an official right to present their point of view at the institution. There are currently about 3,000 groups with this ability. Normally, groups applying to obtain the right are at least able to plead why they believe they should get it. But Bush and Ahmadinejad teamed up to prevent that from happening.
To be fair, it is not just the U.S. who supports Iran on this issue. We are joined in our noble efforts by the likes of Sudan, Zimbabwe, Cameroon, Pakistan and Russia. Cuba, China and Senegal round out the club.
Bush signs on with these other protectors of human rights, these freedom-loving democracies - because he's the "values" President. A compassionate conservative.
