Union Square is a farmer's market on Saturdays, and so you see trucks lined up at its Northern End . There are usually a few different people playing music in the Park. This small band was playing "When You're Smiling (The whole world smiles with you)," and they were great.
This gentleman has been selling vegetable peelers for 15 straight years on the streets of New York. At times he comes by Union Square, with his booming voice and strong English accent, to hawk his "machine."
And here it is. 'Only $5.00, and guaranteed for life. It can peel apples, carrots, potatoes. It can julienne vegetables; make French Fries. It can peel asparagus so gently that you never hurt the tip of the stalk. One hundred percent stainless steel so it's rustproof and dishwasher safe. Manufactured in Switzerland by a company who produces surgical scalpels that never require sharpening this product can be found nowhere else in New York.'
Finally, after hearing his spiel eight or ten times a year for fifteen years, I bought one.
