It seems that my previous post was overly opaque. During her confirmation hearings before the Senate, Madame Rice was questioned about the campaigning she had done as National Security Adviser. Previously, the holder of that office did not campaign. Condi defied tradition in Bush's run for re-election, and campaigned hard. When testifying as the potential Secretary of State, she made it clear that, this time, she would be entirely non-partisan:
But you can be certain that I will respect the tradition of this office, of the secretary of State, should I be confirmed. I think it has to be bipartisan. I think it cannot be political in any way. And I, in my comments, mentioned how important I thought bipartisan foreign policy is, and I'll do everything that I can to make it that way. (Transcript)
In spite of that sworn testimony, Condi has spent a lot of the last two weeks campaigning. She has appeared on right wing talk radio again and again and again, singing the praises of the man she reads to, and works out with - George W. Bush.
It is simply another example of the damage that Bush has done to our government - Attorney General Abu Gonzalez, the head of FEMA. positions at the CDC etc etc - positions that should be given to the most competent have been given instead to the most politically supportive of Bush. It was supposed to be a Cabinet, not a Court.
P.S. Many thanks to Rick, whose loyalty and concern is really appreciated, by me, and especially by the recovering patient.
