Politico today reported on Mitt Romney's discussion of his various overseas bank accounts. Attempting to burnish his patriotic purchasing bona fides, Mr. Romney said:
"and by the way, [I] don't buy foreign products, don't have any Japanese TV's or foreign cars, yeah,"
Please Mr Romney - if you don't buy any foreign products, where do you buy your TV's?? Becase they were not made in the U.S.A.
This is from the Chicago SunTimes Jan, 2012
"If Element Electronics succeeds in making flat-screen televisions in Michigan, it will become the only American-owned TV manufacaturer producing in the U.S., something the country has lacked since Zenith Electronics became a subsidiary of LG Electronics 17 years ago"
Although obviously untrue, this little falsehood of Romney's isn't a big deal. What is important is that Mr Romney's baby, Bain and Company, continues to brag about its history of, and proficiency at, outsourcing.
So while Romney may like to fantasize that he buys American made products, much of the money he spends was made by helping companies STOP making in America.
