I will be thrilled when Rudi is finished; he would do terrible damage to our country.
He is a liar utterly devoid of moral principle. When factcheck.org listed lies by the candidates, Giuliani of course led the list.
Still I am concerned when some of the left's best pundit/bloggers write him off. Josh Marshall of T.P.M today wrote:
Rudy, not surprisingly, is dropping like a stone at both major prediction market sites.
But we might be underestimating the man. He said long ago that his focus was not going to be on Iowa or New Hampshire, but instead on Florida and then the Super Tuesday States. Many of our best bloggers were writing McCain's obituary not so long ago.
You are right that Rudy is dangerous, if not delusional and deranged. Just read Elizabeth Kolbert in this week's New Yorker on how he is running his campaign. However, as I said in my comment a couple of days ago, it would be all to the good if he were the republican nominee. There's too much kink about him to get the religious right to vote for him (even compared to Hillary), and too much New York about him to be palatable to the southern and rural states on which republican electoral victories depend. And most of the great center has long ago left 9/11 psychologically behind, so his one note appeal has considerably diminished. With only a part of the base and not much for the swing voters, he would be sure to lose the general election. McCain, on the other hand, could win -- and Romney is bland and photogenic enough that he might be able to as well (remember Reagan). You should be rooting for Rudy at the top of the ticket.

Thanking your for the comment, but begging to differ, I feel compelled to remind you that in 2004 the U.S. electorate selected George W. Bush to be the President. Letting Rudi get too close the Presidency is too dangerous for me.
