Shame.

Not surprisingly, Right Wing Blogs  have been doing what they do best in response to the recent protests about propsed immigration law: they're spreading hate.

One blogger , referring to an immigrant from Latin America, writes how "he'll demand health care...,[and] become one-fifth of your prison population."

Another who attacks Ted Kennedy for his college record, and for Chappaquiddick, refers to the immigrants as "wet backs."

One more, recommended  by Michelle Malkin, argues that "another option is to simply give them parts of the U.S. that we really don't want anymore, like New Orleans or Detroit. Then wall off those areas and be done with it."

Michelle recommends lots of  other mongerers of hate, and posts picture of protests she says the Main Stream Media will not publish.

In that same spirit, I would like to list some names that Michelle will never publish:

Cpl. Roberto Abad 22 Weapons Company, Battalion Landing Team, 1st Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force, Los Angeles,California

Cmdr. Joseph Acevedo, 46, Assigned to Commander, Logistics Force, Navy Central Command, Bronx,New York

Sgt. 1st Class Ramon A. Acevedoaponte 51 Headquarters Company, 3rd Forward Support Battalion, Division Support Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, Watertown. New York,

Spc. Genaro Acosta, 26, Battery, 1st Battalion, 44th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 4th Infantry Division,Fair Oaks, California

Pfc. Steven Acosta, 19, Company C, 3rd Battalion, 67th Armored Regiment, 4th Infantry Division, Calexico,California

Cpl. Andres Aguilar Jr., 21, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, 3rd Marine Expeditionary Force, Victoria, Texas

Capt. Paul C. Alaniz, 32, Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 361, Marine Aircraft Group 16, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, Corpus Christi, Texas

Cpl. Nicanor Alvarez, 22, Company B, 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force,San  Bernardino,California

Spc. Yoe M. Aneiros, 20, Company C, 2nd Battalion, 70th Armor, 3rd Brigade, 1st Armored Division Newark,New Jersey

Spc. Edward J. Anguiano, 24, Company A, 3rd Combat Support Battalion Brownsville,Texas

Cpl. Carlos Arellano ,22, Company I, 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force Rosemead,California

Sgt. Roberto Arizola Jr., 31, Company B, 297th Military Intelligence Battalion, 513th Military Intelligence Brigade, Laredo, Texas

Lance Cpl. Alexander S. Arredondo, 20, Company A, Battalion Landing Team, 1st Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, Randolph,MA

Spc. Richard Arriaga 20 Headquarters Battery 4th Battalion, 42nd Field Artillery Regiment, 4th Infantry Division, Ganado, Texas

All of those on this list have last name that begin with the letter "A." I could go on.

While Michelle and friends argue about whether to call them "Latinos", "Reconquistas", "Hispanics" or "wetbacks", we  recognize them as people who have died fighting for the U.S. in the war in Iraq.

Michelle and company need not worry about Roberto Arizola from Laredo, TX, nor about 19 year old Pfc Acosta from Calexico, CA, marching on the Mall in Washington ever again. They are dead.

I happen to make a tremendous distinction between LEGAL immigrants and ILLEGAL aliens. One I welcome wholeheartedly; the other I resent deeply. Don't you consider that a significant difference?

As far as the "wetback" remark... I've apologized for that. The impulse to remind folks of what a loathsome, despicable, vile swine of a human being Ted Kennedy is overwhelmed me.

J.

You invoke the names of combat killed soldiers? Those whose boots you are not worthy to carry? Is there no depth to which you would not descend to make political point? Please spare us the paragraph you now contemplate will defend that which is indefensible.

Rick,
Those soldiers were killed by politics, Bush's dishonest determination to get us into war for his own personal advantage. The shame is not in invoking the soldiers names, but in sending them out to die for cynical reasons. The soldiers deserve honor. Their Commander in Chief, the chickenhawk, does not.

Jay Tea - Please - I have to ask you to be a little less disingenuous about your distinctions. Your knee-jerk, splenetic description of the Senator whom Bush called a "fabulous Senator" and whom he said was "not only a good Senator, [he's] a good man", does not excuse using words like "wetback."
But more importantly in terms of policy - I need to ask you if you honestly believe that the families of those fallen heros I listed; people who live in places like Brownsville, Corpus Christi or Laredo,TX, all came here legally? Pfc Steven Acosta, of Calexico, CA, spent at least some years of his youth across the border in Mexicali. Lance Cpl. Alexander S. Arredondo's father came from Costa Rica while Spc. Yoe M. Aneiros' father still lives in Cuba, where his son was born. Michael Savage called all of the demonstrators, illegal or legal - "vermin", while Brit Hume called them "repellant." It's not as if using words like "wetback" is uncharacteristic of those on your side of this debate.

My brother (Roberto Arizola Jr)is one of many names mentioned and he died to give everybody in AMERICA a chance to be free and not scared. We come from immigrant parents and i am proud to say i am MEXICAN. Also the word "wetbag" or "alien" doesnt offend me in the least, one of the things that i have come to understand about America we have a lot of UN-EDUCATED PEOPLE. To my brother i love and i miss you and see you soon. Your big sister Angelica

Dear Angelica,
I am honored by your commenting here. Thank you. You are right to be proud of your Mexican heritage, and especially to be proud of your courageous, hero of a brother. I listed his name to remind the people who seem to hate immigrants, of all the sacrifices that immigrants, and their families, have made for this country.
